DECORATIVE ARTIST
What both projects had in common was to bring to life the diverse imaginings and wishful desires of both a man who idolized Henry Hudson and wanted to memorialize his discoveries, real of otherwise, to grace the walls with warmth and whimsy of his restaurant on the banks of the Hudson River.
The second man wished to recreate his media room into the interior of a gold mine during the gold rush days. The challenge here was to not only create a sense of reality, where none could possibly exist, using a combination of painted fool the eye scenics and dimensional elements to take the “home movie” viewer to a whole other place in time.
While commissions for decorative and applied arts are totally diverse and totally about expressing the vision of the client, the diversity is both stimulating and challenging. It takes my places I would never think of; from playful Miro-like imagery for a children’s room, to chinoiserie to faux 19th century romantic paintings.
